BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Oral Roberts baseball team closed the regular season with a 7-4 loss at South Dakota State Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles fell behind by a score of 3-0 in the first inning before pushing a run across in the fourth.
Blake Hall opened the ORU scoring with a single through the left side to score
Ryan Cash.
South Dakota State got three runs in the fifth inning, including a pair on back-to-back home runs. The Jackrabbits pushed their lead to 7-1 in the sixth inning when they pushed another run across.
In the seventh,
Joshua Cox doubled to right center to score
Anthony Martinez. Cox kept the Golden Eagle comeback efforts alive in the ninth inning with a two-run blast to right field.
Cash and
Jake McMurray did their best to keep the rally alive and allowed the tying run to step to the plate. Unfortunately, a fly out ended the ballgame and the Golden Eagles fell by a score of 7-4.
Turning Point
South Dakota State launched a pair of back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning, which ultimately proved to be too much for ORU to overcome.
Inside the Box Score
- ORU used eight different pitchers in Saturday's regular season finale.
- Golden Eagle pitching recorded 13 strikeouts on Saturday.
- Cash tallied a four-hit game for the Golden Eagles. Cox and Adam Oviedo each added a multi-hit game of their own as well.
- Cash and Cox both added their 14th doubles of the season in the contest.
- Bradan Pierce struck out the side in the seventh inning. Pierce needed just 16 pitches to fan all three Jackrabbits he faced.

The Golden Eagles will square off with South Dakota State once again in the first round of the Summit League tournament. First pitch from Tal Anderson Field will take place on Thursday, May 27 at 1 pm.
