#ORUWSoc Plays to 4-4 Draw on Opening Night

TULSA, Okla. – An offensive explosion from the Oral Roberts women's soccer team (0-0-1) was not enough as the Golden Eagles played to a 4-4 draw with Northwestern State (0-0-1) in double overtime.
 
NSU opened the scoring in the 11th minute to take an early 1-0 lead.
 
Eleven minutes later, Marta Nieto found the net on her first shot as a Golden Eagle with Mia Kitterman and Samantha Guzman picking up assists on the play. Just before halftime, ORU took a 2-1 off of a strike from Samantha See. Ava Crimmings picked up the first point of her collegiate career with an assist.
 
In the 67th minute, Kennedy Langebartels pushed ORU's lead to two with her first collegiate goal, while Guzman picked up her second assist of the night.  Northwestern State rattled off three unanswered goals in a thirteen minute span to retake a 4-3 lead.
 
With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, freshman Sophie Nash beat a defender off of a smooth pass from Nicole Gornell, tying the game at four.
 
As regulation drew to a close, the two teams prepared to head to overtime. In the first overtime, both teams took a shot but neither landed on goal. With 30 seconds remaining in the second overtime, the Golden Eagles had a fantastic scoring opportunity but were unable to land a shot attempt on goal. As the remaining seconds ticked off the clock, the teams remained deadlocked at four.
 
Notables
  • Five different players made their first collegiate appearances for the Golden Eagles – Nieto, Nash, Crimmings, Guzman, and Michele Bonifacio.
  • Nash, Nieto, Langebartels all netted their first collegiate goals.
  • Guzman and Crimmings picked up the first assist of their collegiate careers.
  • ORU attempted 19 shots in the game, landing 10 on goal.
  • Jordyn Blackburn played the full 110 minutes in the field.
