TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts men's soccer team claimed a key victory Saturday evening over the Omaha Mavericks, 1-0, to continue to stay atop the Summit League standings.
It was a battle Saturday night as both teams tried to get things going in the first half. The Golden Eagle back line held strong as Omaha had two shots on goal in the first 10 minutes. ORU goalkeeper
Jeremy Coste made back-to-back saves. The Mavericks had two more shots on goal in the 24
th and 26
th minutes that were saved as well. ORU's offense had its share of shots on goal with two in the first half, but couldn't connect as the two teams went into the break tied, 0-0.
The Golden Eagles got on the board early in the second half in the 49
th minute of play.
Felipe D'Agostini captured his fourth goal of the season when he received a pass into the penalty from
Schinieder Mimy to score from 12 yards out. Mimy was credited with the assist.
ORU's defense continued to hold strong as the Mavericks managed only two second half shots on goal. D'Agostini had a couple more chances later in the match with two shots on goal in the 50
th and 63
rd minutes, but were saved.
Joel Quashie also tried to give the Golden Eagles another goal in the 55
th minute, but came up short. In the 59
th minute,
Francisco Lopez made an incredible team save to hold the Mavericks scoreless.
In the past three games ORU has scored 11 goals in 135 minutes of play. It was the fourth shutout of the season for the Golden Eagles. With Saturday's win, ORU has sole possession of first in the league standings with 15 points.
