TULSA, Okla. – For the first time since 2004 the Oral Roberts men's soccer team claimed the Summit League regular season championship outright winning 4-0 over Southern Indiana Saturday afternoon at the Case Soccer Complex.
The Golden Eagles got things going early in the first half as ORU had its first shot-on-goal in the eighth minute. Felipe D'Agostini captured his seventh goal of the season in the 14
th minute to make it a 1-0 game.
Reed Berry, from inside the six yard box, sent a shot on goal that was deflected back out by the keeper to D'Agostini for the goal. Berry was credited with the assist and it was ultimately the game winning goal for D'Agostini.
Josselyn Petel made it a 2-0 match in the 37
th minute with his third goal of the season. Romulo Bosqueiro sent pass in to the left side of the goal to Logan Bellone who then passed to Petel for the goal. Bellone and Bosqueiro picked up assists.
With seconds remaining in the first half,
Shane Anderson scored to make it 3-0 before the break. Anderson stole the ball off a pass by Southern Indiana, dribbled around the goal keeper and scored his sixth goal of the season.
In the second half, Bosqueiro scored a goal of his goal. D'Agostini sent a free kick to the right post to Berry who then tapped the ball to Bosqueiro for the goal from a couple yards out. It was Bosqueiro's second goal of the season.
It was the fourth-straight shutout for the Golden Eagles as the defense limited Southern Indiana to just one shot on goal in the match. With the win, the Golden Eagles will be the No. 1 seed in next week's Summit League Tournament in Denver, Colorado. ORU has also earned the right to host the 2023 Summit League Tournament. The win also extended ORU' unbeaten streak to eight.
