TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts men's basketball team will begin the 2022-23 campaign with a trip out west to Moraga, California, to face the Saint Mary's Gaels from the West Coast Conference Monday, November 6 at 9 p.m. CST.

Quick Hits

• Max Abmas was named preseason Summit League Player of the Year and to the league's preseason First Team. Abmas earned a spot on the NABC Preseason Player of the Year Watch List as well as on the 2023 Bob Cousy Award Watch List. Both for the second-straight season.

• For the first time since 2011-12, the Golden Eagles were picked No. 1 in the Summit League preseason rankings. ORU also sits at No. 12 in the preseason Mid-Major Poll.

• Abmas averaged 22.8 ppg last season and Issac McBride averaged 12.3 ppg to lead the No. 4 offense in the nation. McBride was named to the league's preseason Second Team for 2022-23.

• Behind two 38-point outings last season, Abmas ranked 5th in the nation in points per game and is 3rd the country making 3.80 3-pointers a game. The senior recently moved to fourth in program history in career triples and has 301 in his tenure. He is currently 10th all-time in scoring with 1,819 career points.

• ORU hit 11.6 triples per game, which was 4th in the nation, thanks to a school-record 21 against Southwestern Christian and 19 versus Tulsa last year. The team made double-digit 3-pointers in 22 games last season.

• The Golden Eagles were 13th in the NCAA pulling down 40.3 rebounds a contest and 6th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (29.3).

Scouting the Opponent
• This will be the second all-time meeting between ORU and Saint Mary's. The Golden Eagles lead the series, 1-0. In the first meeting, ORU defeated the Gaels, 110-96 (Dec. 29, 1972), at home.

• Saint Mary's has nine returners from last season after losing seven. The Gaels return three starters and bring in seven newcomers. SMU was picked second in the preseason WCC rankings.
 
• Alex Ducas and Logan Johnson round out the double-digit scoring for the Gaels with Ducas averaging 10.3 ppg last season and Johnson with 11.9 ppg.

• The Gaels went 26-8 last season and 12-3 in the West Coast Conference. Saint Mary's made it to the second round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament as the No. 5 seed with an 82-53 win over No. 12 Indiana before falling to No. 11 UCLA, 72-56.
