#ORUBase Sweeps Tuesday Doubleheader

The Basics (Game One)

TULSA, Okla. – AJ Archambo went seven strong, and Jackson Loftin and Holden Breeze went yard as the Oral Roberts baseball team swept the two-game set against the Billikens of Saint Louis with an 8-3 victory Monday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

After allowing two runs in the top of the first, Archambo settled down and followed with six scoreless frames to pick up his first win of the season. The senior struck out six and retired 13 of the last 14 batters he faced on the day.
 
Loftin evened the score, 2-2, in the second with his first home run of the season, driving in Alec Jones, who led off the inning with a single. Following an error by the Billikens, Mac McCroskey put ORU in front, 3-1, with an infield RBI single.
 
Breeze extended the lead, 5-2, with a two-run shot to left field in the fourth. The homer was the redshirt sophomore's first of the year.
 
The Golden Eagles tacked on three more runs in the sixth to push their lead to 8-2. Connor Beichler and Jake McMurray registered RBI singles and Jones drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in the third run of the frame.
 
A passed ball in the top of the eighth brought home the third run of the afternoon for the Billikens to make the final 8-3.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Loftin and Breeze both finished 2-for-3 on the day with two RBIs.
- Loftin scored game-best three runs and also drew a walk on the afternoon.
- McCroskey registered his fourth straight multi-hit game and fifth of the season after finishing 2-for-4 on the day.
- The redshirt junior also stole his second bag of the year.
- Loftin swiped his third bag of the season and second in as many games.
- Evan Kowalski pitched two innings in relief, allowing one unearned run and striking out one.
- Eight of the nine batters in the starting lineup logged a hit for the Golden Eagles.

Notes
- With the win, the Golden Eagles are now 28-5 all-time against the Billikens.
- At J.L. Johnson Stadium, ORU is now 20-2 all-time against Saint Louis.
- Head Coach Ryan Folmar improved to 4-4 in his career against the Billikens.

TULSA, Okla. – Ledgend Smith struck out a career-high eight batters, and Dustin Demeter and Joshua Cox drove in three runs each as the Oral Roberts baseball team routed Wright State, 13-2, in game two of Tuesday's doubleheader.

The Golden Eagles scored in the opening five frames and never looked back. Mac McCroskey, Caleb Denny, Justin Quinn, Jackson Loftin, Joshua Cox and Demeter all registered multi-hit performances for the Golden Eagles on the evening. 

Smith allowed one run over five innings of work to record his first win of the year. In relief, Colten Weber tossed three scoreless innings and struck out three. 

Five runs crossed the plate in the opening frame for the Golden Eagles on only one hit as three Wright State errors proved to be costly.

After the Raiders got a run back in the second on a home run, Holden Breeze answered with a sacrifice fly to center to score Denny, making it 6-1, ORU.

RBI singles from Denny and Demeter pushed the lead to 8-1 in the third for the Golden Eagles.

McCroskey kept the scoring streak alive for ORU in the fourth as the redshirt junior plated Loftin on an RBI single to left. 

Three more Golden Eagle runs crossed the plate in the fifth to make it 12-1, ORU. Demeter scored Jake McMurray on an RBI double and later crossed the plate on a Justin Quinn infield single. Cox brought home the third run of the inning with an RBI double down the left-field line.

In the seventh, Cox drove home the final run of the game for ORU with an RBI ground out.

Wright State loaded the bases in the ninth and scored a run on an RBI walk to make the final 13-2.
 
Inside the Box Score
- McCroskey logged his fifth straight multi-hit game and sixth of the year, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate.
- Demeter plated three runs for the second time this season.
- Breeze totaled multiple RBIs for the third straight contest.
- Loftin stole second for the third straight game and logged his fourth steal of the year.
- Cox swiped his first bag of the season.
- Brody Gibson and McMurray both registered two walks in the contest.
- Seven different ORU players drove in a run on the evening.
- The Golden Eagles recorded six doubles on the night.

Notes
- This was the first meeting all-time between the Golden Eagles and Raiders.
- The five runs in the first inning for ORU marked the first time the Golden Eagles have accomplished that feat since May 14, 2021, at Omaha.
- McCroskey has now hit safely in all seven ORU contests in 2022.
