4/8/2022 10:32:00 AM

TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts Head Coach Austin Risenhoover announced Wednesday the signing of four transfers to the 2022 women's soccer team.

Risenhoover on the 2022 Signees:

"We are thrilled to be adding this list of transfers that we have coming in," Head Coach Austin Risenhoover said. "We have to give our current players a lot of credit for where the program is going because they have been huge ambassadors for the women's soccer team. Their dedication has allowed us to add more players because these players want to be a part of what our current players have created. We are delighted that they have chosen ORU to be their new home."

Jordan Grigsby transferred to ORU as a junior from Appalachian State University. The 5-foot-6 midfielder/defender is a native of Pearl River, Louisiana. In high school she won the 2020 Louisiana High School Championship and went undefeated in district play under head coach Ryan Lazzaroe at Northshore High School. She is the younger sister to ORU women's soccer letterwinner Tatum Grigsby.

"Jordan is an ORU player," Risenhoover said. "She fits exactly what we are looking to add from a player and character standpoint. She has over 1,200 minutes on the midfield as a freshman and has college soccer experience that can help make an impact right away. She has had family come through the program and her brother is coming to ORU so she knows what we are about, which excites us.  With Jordan's experience we think she can help impact, immediately, the goals that we are setting forth for our program."

"I chose ORU because I know that it will be a place I can develop on the field as a player, and also mentally and spiritually off the field as well," Grigsby said. "I'm so excited to be a Golden Eagle!"

Ariana "Ari" Fresquez joined the ORU team from James Madison University. Fresquez transfers in as a redshirt freshman center back. Originally from Chandler, Arizona, she was a two-time premier region player of the year. She was named all-district defensive player of the year as well as all-state All-American. A graduate from Hamilton High School, she was named Hamilton's Female Athlete of the Year.

"Ariana comes from a very good program in JMU and a close friend of mine, Josh Walters," Risenhoover said. "Ariana is going to add depth at the center back spot.  She fits the way we want to play. Her cognition in the build, and her tenacity of the defensive side on the game will make a huge influence on our backline. Ariana is looking forward to her new home and I am happy that she has chosen ORU. Ariana also is a high character kid who will help us culturally for the next four years."

"As a student-athlete, ORU has provided me the opportunity to be part of an amazing program, while getting a top-tier education," Ariana Fresquez said. "I'm excited to begin this journey, within a team and school that withholds values and beliefs that align with my own and will help me continuously grow."

A transfer from Utah Valley, Layla Lopez comes to ORU as a freshman defender. A native of Melbourne, Victoria, Lopez is a three-time intermediate girls' soccer champion. She attended Maribyrnong Secondary College in Australia and won the 2019 WNPL. Throughout her soccer career she has started in 90 percent of her games.

"We were excited when Layla Lopez decided to come to ORU from the Utah Valley University after a Sweet 16 run," Risenhoover said. "Layla played for one of my best friends, Chris Lemay, and he spoke very highly of her as a player and her character. Layla has been a breath of fresh air in our program this spring, her positive attitude and work rate have been what we are looking for. Layla has added good depth for our team at outside back. We are looking forward for Layla's continued growth in the program. She has made a great impact this spring for us culturally and on the field."

I chose ORU because of the loving environment allows all students and athletes to prosper," Layla Lopez said. "It has given me the opportunity to become the best version of myself, on and off the field. ORU has shown me what it means to be a part of a team, but even more so, a family, and I am so thankful for that."

Abril Lucio joins the Golden Eagle squad from Little Rock. During her time with the Trojans, Lucio scored the game winning goal in Sun Belt Conference play against Coastal Carolina with 20 seconds left. She comes to ORU as a fifth-year senior midfielder. A native from Wichita, Kansas, she graduated from Wichita Northwest High School in 2018.

"We are excited to add Abril, she is the type of character athlete we are looking for and is player who has ambitions of playing at the next level," Risenhoover said. "This is a player that has over 4,000 minutes of college soccer. She brings what we are continuing to grow in our attack here. She is very creative and her ability to score will be something that can be an immediate impact for our team. Abril is a player that we can't wait see how she can help us in our quest to be playing for championships."

I chose Oral Roberts because I feel it fits me best through the academics and athletics," Abril Lucio said. "After visiting the campus and meeting the women's soccer team I knew it was the right choice. The people are friendly, helpful and the campus is beautiful. In addition, ORU has given me the opportunity to pursue a master's degree while playing the sport I love. I am very excited to get started."
