#ORUVB Falls at North Dakota State

FARGO, N.D. – The Oral Roberts volleyball team fell in straight sets (18-25, 13-25, 21-25) to North Dakota State Thursday evening inside Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse in Fargo, North Dakota. 

Jaxie Wakley led the Golden Eagles with five kills, while Trinity Freeman followed with four on the night. Setter Maite Solabarrieta dished out a season-high 11 assists in the contest to lead ORU. Defensively, Shelbi Steen topped the Golden Eagles with eight digs, while Kedron Burk totaled a match-best three blocks.

Following an 8-2 start to the opening set by NDSU, the Golden Eagles answered with a 5-1 run to pull within three, 10-7. The Bison put an end to the stretch with three straight points to build their advantage to 14-9. Once again, ORU compiled a 5-1 run to draw within one, 15-14. NDSU responded with 10 of the final 14 points to claim the set, 25-18.

In the second, NDSU raced out to a 7-1 start and never looked back as they took the set, 25-13. After the two sides traded the opening 16 points of the third set, the Bison opened a five-point lead, 14-9, behind a 5-0 run. The Golden Eagles responded with a 5-0 spurt of their own to even the set a 16-16. With the score tied at 19-19, NDSU rattled off six of the final eight points to claim the set, 25-21, and the match.

Match Notes
  • Wakley led ORU in kills for the second time this season.
  • Solabarrieta topped the Golden Eagles in assists for the first time this year.
  • The junior also registered a match-high tying two service aces.
  • Burk has now logged three or more blocks in four straight matches.
