MANHATTAN, Kan. – After sending the game to overtime, the ORU men's basketball team fell, 88-78, on the road against Big 12 Conference opponent Kansas State in Manhattan, Kansas.
For the first time since the Summit League Championship game last season, Oral Roberts had two 20-point scorers in a contest.
Issac McBride led all scorers with 25 points on the night for his fourth consecutive 20-plus point outing going 10-for-16 overall.
Jailen Bedford scored a career high 25 after shooting 9-for-17 overall from the field in what was the program's first overtime game since 2022.
The Golden Eagles started off hot from the field to begin the game. Bedford hit Back-to-back threes to tie the game, 7-7, at the 16:20 mark. Bedford then hit another three to put him at 3-for-3 from three-point range in the first five minutes. A two-plus minute scoring drought by ORU was then snapped by a
DeShang Weaver three, to bring ORU back to within two. However, another two-plus minute drought for ORU led to a 9-0 run by the Wildcats. McBride stopped the run to make it a single-digit deficit. Oral Roberts then sparked an impressive 10-0 run to respond and make it a one point game with seven minutes left. The run was highlighted by a
Trey Phipps and
Kareem Thompson three-pointer each. With 1:30 left in the half,
Sir Issac Herron tied it, 38-38, when he sank his first three-ball of the season. After taking a lead with one minute left. K-State tied with 42 seconds to go. McBride gave ORU the lead back, 41-40, on a free-throw with 20 seconds to play. K-State hit one free-throw before the break to send the game in to halftime tied, 41-41. Golden Eagles shot 63 percent in the first half. It was the best first half of shooting for ORU this season.
In the second half, K-State started off on a 7-0 run. Thompson stopped the run with the Golden Eagles' first basket with 16:35 on the clock. At the under 12 media timeout, ORU trailed 59-50, but then went on an 8-0 run to pull back to within one, 59-58, with eight minutes to go. Bedford then stole the ball and dunked it on the other end to force a Kansas State timeout. With six minutes to play, K-State took a 66-60 lead. The Golden Eagles pulled to within two with 2:30 to go on a McBride floater. McBride tied the game 68-68, but K-State hit an and-one three-pointer on the following possession to take a four point lead with one minute left. After a pair of free-throws by McBride to pull to within two, ORU held strong on the defensive end and was fouled going the other way. With five seconds left in regulation, Thompson dribbled in and passed the ball to Herron who tied the game, 72-72, to send it to overtime. Kansas State was able to run away with the game in the overtime period going on a 14-3 run to win the game, 88-78.
The Golden Eagles had their best shooting performance of the season going 51.7 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from three-point range.
Individual Leaders
Oral Roberts: McBride scored 25 and Bedford had nine rebounds.
Kansas State: Arthur Kaluma and Tylor Perry each scored 20 points while Cam Carter had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
