BROOKINGS, S.D. – Despite a double-double from
Trinity Freeman, the Oral Roberts volleyball team fell at South Dakota State in four sets (20-25, 21-25, 25-16, 16-25) Saturday evening inside Frost Arena in Brookings, South Dakota.Â
Freeman logged her eighth double-double of the season after totaling a match-best 13 kills to go along with 14 digs. The junior has now led the Golden Eagles in kills in 19 of the last 20 matches.Â
Setter
Kalena Vaivai orchestrated the offensive attack as the senior dished out a match-high 31 assists. The Wailuku, Hawaii, native also added nine digs, six kills and three blocks on the night.Â
On the backrow, libero
Breanna Rivas led all players with 22 digs in the match. At the net,
Kedron Burk registered a match-high tying five blocks.Â
SDSU registered seven of the first 10 points of the opening set before ORU responded with four of the next six to pull within two, 9-7. The Golden Eagles later drew within one, 16-15, courtesy of a 3-0 spurt. The Jackrabbits responded with a 5-0 run to push their advantage to 21-15. Despite scoring five of the final nine, ORU dropped the opening set, 25-20.

After a tight start to the second set, SDSU used a 5-1 run to create separation between the two sides en route to a 25-21 win. Â The Golden Eagles responded in the third with a 25-16 victory behind runs of 5-1, 9-2 and 3-0. With ORU leading 10-8 in the fourth, the Jackrabbits used runs of 8-1 and 7-1 to claim the set, 25-16, and the match.Â

- Freeman topped ORU in kills for the 22nd time this season.

- Rivas led the Golden Eagles in digs for the 11th time this season.
- The junior's 20-plus dig performance marked the sixth of her career.
