Udoumoh, Jones Lead the Way in #ORUWBB Win Over Denver

TULSA, Okla. – Ruthie Udoumoh pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds and Taleyah Jones scored 20 or more points for the sixth time this season as the Oral Roberts women's basketball team defeated Denver, 95-64, on Sunday afternoon inside the Mabee Center.

The senior forward did it all today for the Golden Eagles as she notched her sixth double-double of the season. On top of her 13 point and 18 rebound outing, Udoumoh also posted a game-high +40 plus/minus rating. Udoumoh continues to a be a reliable contributor on both ends of the floor making her presence felt on offense and defense.

Taleyah Jones showcased her elite scoring ability once again as the sophomore poured in 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Jones has now scored 20 points in back-to-back games and crossed the threshold six times this season.

Emily Robinson (19), Hannah Cooper (16), and Jalei Oglesby (14) rounded out the double-figure scorers for ORU. Robinson's 19 points matched a career-high that she had previously set at Oklahoma back in November. Cooper added six assists in addition to her 16 point outing. The fifth year guard continues to be a playmaker and distributor in this Golden Eagle offense. Oglesby has now reached double-digit scoring in 10 of 13 games this and consistently provides a spark off the bench.

ORU got off to a hot start in the first quarter and never looked back. Robinson opened up the scoring on the first possession of the game converting on a layup. Angelina Robles hit two free throws before back-to-back buckets in the paint courtesy of Cooper and Jones. The Pios strung together a quick 5-0 run to take a one point lead, but Jones quickly responded and reclaimed the lead with a layup and the foul. The Golden Eagles would not surrender the lead again as they took control the rest of the way. Jones had an early seven points at the end of the first quarter as ORU held a 24-10 lead after the first ten minutes.

Both teams opened the second period of play with a flurry of baskets. Oglesby got to work quickly scoring four points before the first media timeout. Out of the timeout, Udoumoh and Robinson each scored inside the paint to grow the lead for ORU. Jones and freshman Gentry Baldwin both connected on three pointers in the last 90 seconds of the quarter as the Golden Eagles carried a 43-25 lead with them into halftime.

The Golden Eagles continued to keep the Pioneers at a distance throughout the second half. ORU put together a 10-2 run between the 7:59 and 5:30 minute mark thanks to baskets from four different Golden Eagles. ORU commanded a 57-34 lead at the media timeout. Out of the timeout the Pios managed a 6-0 run before Oglesby ended it with jumper outside of the paint. Cooper and Jones kept the momentum going as they each scored in the final two minutes of the third quarter. After 30 minutes of play ORU was up 68-46 heading into the last quarter.

The Golden Eagles opened the fourth quarter on a 16-3 run with every getting great looks on offense. ORU played with a fluid pace on offense passing the ball and collapsing Denver's zone with dribble penetration. Cooper torched the nets in the final period scoring 10 points and shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor and 2-of-2 from three. ORU held onto its lead and defeated the Pioneers 95-64 to open Summit League play with a perefect 2-0 record.

The Leaders
 
Oral Roberts: Jones scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Udoumoh pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds on the way to her sixth double-double of the season while Cooper dished out a game-high six assists.
 
Denver: Angelina Robles paced Denver with 14 points and four assists while three different Pios recorded five rebounds.
