TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's basketball team dropped its 2022-23 regular-season finale Saturday afternoon as they fell to South Dakota State, 92-67, inside the Mabee Center.
Prior to the game, the Golden Eagles honored their four seniors, Ariel Walker, Delaney Nix, Lauren Ramey and Nena Taylor, for all their contributions to the program.
Hannah Cooper poured in a game-high 23 points and added a team-best seven rebounds to lead ORU. The 20-plus point performance was the senior's 14th of the season. Nix joined Cooper in double-figures with 12 points, while Walker chipped in seven.
It was a back-and-forth opening five minutes as the two sides were even at 11-11. In the closing minute, the Jackrabbits netted six of the final nine points to take a 23-20 advantage into the second. Eight different Golden Eagles scored in the opening period.
SDSU started the second on a 7-0 run as its lead increased to 30-21 at the 7:49 mark. After a layup from Sara Rodrigues trimmed the deficit to 39-29, the Jackrabbits closed the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 45-29 lead into the half. In the quarter, ORU was outscored 22-9.
The Jackrabbits lead grew to 16, 56-40, following a 5-0 spurt prior to the under-five media timeout in the third. Later in the quarter, SDSU extended its advantage to 20, 65-45, as 1:37 showed on the clock. The two sides traded the final four points as the Jackrabbits took a 67-47 lead into the fourth.
A 7-0 run to open the fourth allowed SDSU to take its largest lead of the contest, 81-54, at the 5:39 mark. Despite outscoring the Jackrabbits, 13-11, over the final five minutes, ORU dropped its regular-season finale, 92-67.
THE LEADERS
Oral Roberts: Cooper netted a game-best 23 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
South Dakota State: Myah Selland led the Jackrabbits with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go along with four rebounds.Â
