ABILENE, Texas – Despite a career-high five RBIs from Matt Hogan, the Oral Roberts baseball team dropped Wednesday's midweek contest at Abilene Christian, 10-8, at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene, Texas.

Hogan opened the scoring in the first with a grand slam to left field to put ORU on top 4-0. The homer was the senior's second in as many games and team-leading seventh of the year.

In the second, Blaze Brothers scored the fifth run of the day for the Golden Eagles as the senior crossed the plate on a double play.

A six-spot in the fifth by the Wildcats put them in front, 6-5, for the first time on the afternoon. The six-run frame for ACU was capped off by a grand slam.

After Brothers tied the game on an RBI double down the left field line in the top of the sixth, the Wildcats responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half to regain the lead, 8-6.

The Golden Eagles battled back in the seventh as Hogan drew ORU to within one, 8-7, with an RBI single. Cox, who reached on a single, later scored the tying run on an ACU wild pitch. The Wildcats once again had the answer in the bottom half of the frame as a single coupled with a fielding error allowed two runs to come across for ACU as they took a 10-8 advantage.

ORU brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the eighth with only one out but were unable to cut into the deficit as they fell 10-8.

On the mound, Jacob Widener suffered the loss after allowing two runs, one earned, in an inning of work. Joshua Caravalho earned the start for ORU and allowed four runs over 4.2 innings on the bump.
