MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Oral Roberts baseball team picked up its fourth series win of the season Sunday afternoon, defeating Memphis, 10-3, in the rubber match at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field.
Joshua Caravalho picked up the win in relief after tossing three innings of one-hit baseball and striking out two. Closer Cade Denton followed on the mound with three scoreless innings en route to his fifth save of the year. The junior was dominant in his 11th appearance of the season, striking out six and allowing only one hit.
Offensively, Jake McMurray and Holden Breeze each went 4-for-5 at the dish with a pair of RBIs to lead the Golden Eagles. Mac McCroskey (3-for-4) and Jacob Godman (2-for-5) rounded out the ORU players with a multi-hit performance on the afternoon. Godman also plated a pair of runs in the victory.Â
Memphis struck first in the opening frame with a solo homer to center. McCroskey delivered the response for the Golden Eagles in the second as the redshirt junior launched his second long ball of the weekend over the left-center field wall to even the score at 1-1.
A two-run blast by the Tigers in the bottom half of the frame put them back in front 3-1.Â
In the third, Blaze Brothers got a run back for the Golden Eagles as the senior lifted a solo homer over the left-field wall. For Brothers, the homer was his second of the weekend and seventh of the year. Later in the frame, Justin Quinn evened the score, 3-3, with an RBI double down the left field line that plated McMurray, who reached on a single.
After McCroskey and Breeze reached on a pair of singles in the sixth, Godman put the Golden Eagles in front, 4-3, for the first time with an RBI bunt single. Following a pop-up, McMurray extended the lead, 5-3, with an RBI single up the middle. Later in the inning, Godman came around to score on a wild pitch to make it 6-3, ORU.
In the eighth, the Golden Eagles tacked on three more runs to their advantage with RBI singles from Breeze, Godman and McMurray. Breeze added another RBI single in the ninth as ORU went on to win, 10-3.
