TULSA, Okla. – Brooks Fowler retired 17 of the final 18 batters he faced and the Oral Roberts baseball team claimed the series finale against Stephen F. Austin, 9-1, Sunday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
Fowler tossed seven innings of one-run baseball and struck out six en route to his second win of the 2023 campaign. The seven innings pitched marked a new career-high for the sophomore. In relief, Evan Kowalski entered the contest with a 2-1 lead and picked up his first save of the season after throwing two scoreless frames and striking out three.
After SFA jumped in front, 1-0, in the opening frame on a sacrifice fly, Drew Stahl answered in the fourth with a two-run homer to put ORU on top 2-1. The junior's blast marked his third in the last five games.
In the eighth, the Golden Eagles broke the game open with an eight-run frame that was capped off by a Blaze Brothers two-run blast. The homer was Brothers' third of the season and second of the homestand. In the frame, Matt Hogan, Holden Breeze, Stahl, Preston Baumgartner and Jacob Godman each registered an RBI.
