TULSA, Okla. – Despite an hour-long weather delay, Brooks Fowler, Cade Denton and Andrew Roach combined for the fourth shutout of the season Sunday afternoon as the No. 16 Oral Roberts baseball team blanked Southern Indiana, 5-0, to complete the three-game sweep on Senior Day from J.L. Johnson Stadium.
After the game, ORU recognized its nine seniors; Blaze Brothers, Jacob Godman, Harley Gollert, Matt Hogan, Evan Kowalski, Mac McCroskey, Jake McMurray, Justin Quinn and Roach, for all their contributions to the program.Â
With the win, the Golden Eagles extended their win streak to 12 and are 30-3 in their last 33 contests. The victory was also the 40th of the season for ORU, marking the 22nd time in program history the feat has been accomplished and the first since 2017.Â
Fowler earned the win to improve to 7-1 on the year after tossing five scoreless frames to go along with five strikeouts before his day came to an end due to the weather delay. In relief, Denton struck out a season-high tying six batters in three scoreless innings. Andrew Roach threw a scoreless ninth and struck out two to close out the victory.Â
On the offensive end, Brothers led all players with a 3-for-4 performance at the dish to go along with two runs scored. McMurray joined Brothers as the only other ORU player to register a multi-hit performance on the day. Junior Jonah Cox pushed his hitting streak to 35 games in the win with a 1-for-3 performance and also drew a game-high tying two walks.Â
McMurray opened the scoring with an RBI single in the third that plated Brothers, who reached on a single and then stole second.Â
After McMurray led off the fifth with a double down the left-field line, the senior later came around to score on a Hogan RBI single as the Golden Eagles led 2-0. After the weather delay, Drew Stahl drew a bases-loaded walk to increase the advantage to 3-0.Â
