ST. PAUL, Minn. – The No. 24 Oral Roberts baseball team claimed its eighth straight series win with an 11-2 victory over St. Thomas Saturday afternoon from Koch Diamond. With the win, the Golden Eagles are guaranteed at least a share of their 20th Summit League regular season title.Â
On the mound, Harley Gollert improved to 7-1 after tossing six innings of one-run baseball to go along with six strikeouts. In relief, Dalton Patten collected his fourth save after working three innings of one-run ball and striking out three.
Center fielder Jonah Cox pushed his hit streak to 30 games after finishing 3-for-4 at the dish to go along with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Senior Jake McMurray continued his power surge as the Tulsa, Oklahoma, native belted his sixth home run in six games and also drove in a game-best three RBI.Â
Matt Hogan opened the scoring in the top half of the first with an RBI single that scored Cox, who reached on a walk. The Tommies quickly answered in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI single of their own to even the score at 1-1.
McMurray broke the 1-1 tie in the fifth with a two-run blast to left that brought around Blaze Brothers, who led off the frame with a triple.Â
ORU extended its advantage to 5-1 in the sixth behind a pair of RBI singles from Brothers and McMurray.
In the seventh, three more runs came around to score for the Golden Eagles courtesy of St. Thomas miscues.Â
Cox plated his lone RBI of the day in the eighth with a double that brought around Justin Quinn, who reached base on a hit-by-pitch. In the bottom half of the frame, the Tommies pushed across their final run of the afternoon on a wild pitch.Â
Garrett Casey capped the scoring in the ninth with a two-run homer to left-center as ORU went on to win 11-2. The long ball marked the second of the season for the junior.Â
