EUGENE, Ore. – The Oral Roberts baseball team saw its 21-game win streak snapped Friday evening as they fell to Oregon, 9-8, on a walk-off single in game one of the Eugene Super Regional from PK Park.Â
Jonah Cox went 2-for-4 to extend his hit streak to 45 games, which is tied for the fifth-longest streak in NCAA history. The multi-hit performance marked the 32nd of the season for the junior, who has hit safely in 60 of the 61 games this season.
The Golden Eagles struck first in the third on an RBI groundout from Justin Quinn. Following a walk to Cox, Matt Hogan belted a three-run blast to right field as the ORU lead stretched to 4-0. The long ball marked the 18th of the season and second in as many games for the senior.Â
Later in the frame, a wild pitch allowed Mac McCroskey, who reached on a double, to cross the plate, pushing the lead to 5-0. The Golden Eagle advantage bloomed to 8-0 behind a three-run bases-clearing single from Jake McMurray.Â
The Ducks responded in the bottom half of the third with a pair of solo home runs to trim the lead to 8-2. Oregon threatened for more in the frame as it put runners on the corner with only one out, but Jakob Hall forced a double play to escape the jam.
In the fourth, Oregon struck for three more runs behind a three-run homer to cut the advantage to 8-5.
A solo homer in the sixth and a pair of RBI singles in the seventh saw the Ducks tie the game at 8-8.Â
Following back-to-back walks in the ninth, Oregon walked it off on an RBI single to right to take game one, 9-8.
