TULSA, Okla. – Behind a
Luis Flores goal, the No. 25 ranked Oral Roberts men's soccer team blanked cross town rival No. 22 Tulsa, 1-0, in front of over 2,000 fans Friday night at the Case Soccer Complex. The victory marked the first for the Golden Eagles over the Golden Hurricane since 2005, snapping a three-match losing streak.
Friday's meeting was the first between the two sides at the Case Soccer Complex since October 20, 2008.
After both teams put two shots on goal in a scoreless first half, ORU broke through in the 63rd minute as Flores snuck one past the diving TU keeper from six yards out.
Juan Moreno set up the goal with a beautiful through ball from behind the midline that found the streaking Flores up the middle. Flores' goal marked the junior's Summit League-leading fourth of the season, while Moreno notched his second assist.
The Golden Eagle defense held strong over the final 27 minutes as they allowed only one shot on goal, which
Jakub Grzesiak saved. In the closing minutes, TU earned a pair of corner kicks but were denied as ORU went on to win, 1-0.
