TULSA, Okla.– The Oral Roberts volleyball team dropped its second match of the Tulsa Invitational Friday afternoon, falling to Central Arkansas in straight sets (23-25, 16-25, 15-25) inside the Reynolds Center.

Trinity Freeman powered the offensive attack for the third straight game as the junior compiled a match-best 13 kills. The double-digit kill performance marked the fourth of the season for the Phoenix, Arizona, native and the 35th of her career. Freeman also added eight digs in the match. 

Shelbi Steen chipped in offensively with eight kills in the contest. Junior Thaynara de Jesus led the Golden Eagles with 10 digs on the afternoon.

In a back-and-forth opening set that featured 13 ties and eight lead changes, the Sugar Bears outlasted ORU, 25-23. With the score tied at 16-16, the Golden Eagles rattled off back-to-back points to take an 18-16 advantage and force a Central Arkansas timeout. Out of the stoppage, the Sugar Bears responded with seven of the next nine points to regain the lead, 23-20. Freeman pulled ORU to within one, 24-23, but Central Arkansas claimed the next point to finish off the set.

After the two sides traded the first 14 points of the second set, the Sugar Bears took command with a 13-1 run. The Golden Eagles continued to battle but were unable to make up the deficit as Central Arkansas took the second set, 25-16.

In the third, the Sugar Bears raced out to a 4-0 start and later pushed their advantage to eight, 13-5, following a 3-0 spurt. Central Arkansas finished off the set and the match with three consecutive points as they won 25-15.

Match Notes

• Freeman topped ORU in kills for the sixth time this season.
• Kalena Vaivai dished out 20 assists in the match.
• Libero Breanna Rivas tallied nine digs on the afternoon.
• Off the bench, Alaina Larson registered a match-high tying two service aces.
• Friday's contest marked the 15th all-time between the two squads.
