The Basics
Score:
Oral Roberts 78 – Weber State 83
Record: ORU (7-8, 1-1) – WSU (11-4, 2-0)
Location: Tulsa, Okla. (Mabee Center)

TULSA, Okla. – After winning 21 straight games at the Mabee Center, the nation's longest winning streak came to an end Saturday evening as Weber State defeated the Oral Roberts men's basketball team, 83-78, at the Mabee Center in the Summit League/Big Sky Challenge.

For the second-straight game, four Golden Eagles scored in double figures. Issac McBride played all 40 minutes and led all scorers with 29 points going 11-for-22 from the field and 4-for-8 from the three-point line.

The first half started strong for ORU as Trey Phipps opened the game with a three and Sir Issac Herron made a free-throw to give the Golden Eagles a four point lead. The two teams then went back and forth and tied the game four times in the first five minutes before ORU went on an 8-0 run to lead 18-10 with under 12 minutes left. Oral Roberts would then lead by as much as nine with 9:29 on the clock before Weber State would cut it to five a minute later. DeShang Weaver then made it an eight point game again, but the Wildcats would manage a 7-0 run to cut it to a one point game. Weber State extended its run to 9-2 to pull to within one. With 2:22 left in the first, the Wildcats would take a one point lead and go up by 2 with 1:39 left in the half. With 44 seconds left, Herron made a layup to tie the game, 38-38, which is how the half would end. Both teams shot 53 percent or better in the first half.

Weber State came out in the second half and took a six point lead in the first five minutes. ORU would cut the lead to one before eventually going back down by four and then making a five point swing to lead by one on a McBride three-pointer with 12:29 on the clock. Five minutes later, Weber State would lead by seven and the Golden Eagles didn't quit and cut it back to two with another three by McBride with 6:05 to go. In what seemed like a runaway for Weber State, the Golden Eagles continued to fight. With 1:03 left, the Wildcats had an 11 point lead. After a three by Jailen Bedford, Jalen Miller then stole the inbounds pass and scored a three to cut it to six with 53 seconds left. After two made free-throws by WSU, McBride came down and hit a three to cut it to a five point game with 35 seconds left. The Wildcats would then make two more free-throws, the Golden Eagles kept pushing and hit one more three-pointer by Bedford to make it a three point game with 26 seconds to go. Unfortunately, that would be as close as ORU would get as WSU made two more free-throws and would win game two of the Summit League/Big Sky Challenge, 83-78. McBride scored 20 in the second half as ORU shot 46.7 percent from the field.

It was McBride's eighth 20-plus point game of the season. Herron added 13 points on the night to tie his career high and score a season high. Bedford had 12 points and Thompson scored 10 to round out the double-digit efforts. The contest marked the fourth game of the season as the team shot 50-plus percent from the field and the first time in back-to-back games.
