TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's volleyball program secured their first home victory of the season, topping the Kansas City Roos in four sets. The Golden Eagles and Head Coach
Luke Ward have already surpassed their win total from last season with 10 matches left on their 2024 slate.
ORU opened the match in a 0-3 hole but didn't back down from the fight. The Golden Eagles held steady, keeping their deficit at three (5-8) until they triggered a 12-4 run to flip the score to 17-12. As
Cortnee Smith served, ORU kept scoring, producing a 5-0 run to extend the lead to eight. ORU secured set one behind four kills from
Trinity Freeman and three from
Jenna Salyer.
The Roos took control of set two, hitting .219% to the Golden Eagles' .086%. 6-1 and 10-5 runs from Kansas City left the Golden Eagles in the dust and with work to do heading into set three.
The Golden Eagles and Roos were neck-and-neck throughout the third set with the largest difference between the teams being four. They squeaked by Kansas City with help from five
Trinity Freeman kills and eight
Rachel Resta Assists. Just a three point swing during an 8-5 run allowed ORU to gap the Roos, shutting the door on set three.
With momentum in their favor, ORU closed out the match in set four, hitting .290% in the set while logging three more total kills than the Roos. A 5-1 Golden Eagle run to open the set left the Roos stranded as ORU never trailed.
Trinity Freeman carded eight of the Golden Eagles' 13 kills, closing the match on a 9-3 run and securing the Golden Eagles' first win in the Mabee Center this season!
