#ORUVB Drops First Match of North Dakota Road Trip to Fighting Hawks

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – In the Golden Eagles' first match of a two game road trip to the state of North Dakota, they fell to the Fighting Hawks in a heartbreaker on Thursday night in five sets (25-23, 26-24, 14-25, 18-25, 10-15).
 
ORU opened the first set in a 7-12 hole as UND continued to hit the open spots on the court. Two kills apiece from Trinity Freeman and Hope Hickman ignited the Golden Eagles as they went on a 10-2 run mid-set to flip the momentum. Four of the last six ORU points were kills as ORU squeaked by UND in set one.
 
Similarly, ORU began set two down 8-14 but clawed their way back into it. The Golden Eagles scored the following seven points, four of which by Anzley Rinard, as she carded two service aces and two kills throughout the seven point swing. Down 23-24, Natassia Baptiste came in clutch, recording three straight kills to give the Golden Eagles a two set advantage heading into set three.
 
After the Golden Eagles' hot start, they couldn't secure the victory, losing sets three, four and five. Errors hurt ORU immensely as they logged seven errors in the third and fifth set.
 
Match Notes
  • Anzley Rinard recorded her second straight match with a double-double (second of her career), racking up 15 kills and 10 digs. Rinard led the team, hitting .270% on the night while leading the team in service aces (3).
  • Trinity Freeman had a stellar offensive performance, recording 14 kills and seven digs.
  • Breanna Rivas and Anzley Rinard both led the team in digs with 10.
  • Rachel Resta and Maite Solabarrieta were standout setters as they logged 24 and 15 assists, respectively.
  • At the net, Hope Hickman and Kedron Burk each had four block assists, leading ORU.
  • ORU is five wins away from 1,000 wins as a program.
