Box Score BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Golden Eagles fell to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in their first game of a two game road trip on Thursday night (17-25, 19-25, 26-24, 9-25).
The Golden Eagles opened the match down 3-6 behind five kills from SDSU. The Jackrabbits continued to dominate, logging seven kills in their first eight points. Three kills each from
Anzley Rinard and
Trinity Freeman weren't enough to top the .357 hitting percentage from the Jackrabbits, dropping set one.
Set two started strong for the Golden Eagles, beginning the set in a one point hole, down 7-8. The Jackrabbits also started hot, recording nine kills in their first 12 points. A 7-1 SDSU run helped them blow set two open, increasing their lead to seven (8-15). Through two sets, SDSU had logged 35 kills in 50 points, hitting .311, a difficult milestone to overcome.
A block party in set three helped propel ORU over the Jackrabbits. A 6-1 run extended the Golden Eagle lead to three mid-set (12-9). Another 6-1 run when the Golden Eagles were down 21-23 pushed them into a set three win. Five total blocks and six straight kills late helped ORU come back to secure the set.
Despite seven of ORU's nine points coming from kills, the Jackrabbits dominated set four, hitting .520 and closing the match on a 16-2 run.
Match Notes
- Rachel Resta carded her second double-double of the season, recording 33 assists and 10 digs on the night.
- Trinity Freeman led the Golden Eagles offensively with 12 kills hitting .313% on the match. Freeman also shined defensively, tallying a match-high two blocks and five digs.
- Hope Hickman and Anzley Rinard followed close behind Freeman racking up nine and six kills, respectfully.
- At the net, Kedron Burk and Natassia Baptiste recorded three and 1.5 blocks each. Burk had an impressive overall performance tallying five kills and six digs to go along with her three blocks.
- ORU is three wins away from 1,000 wins as a program.
