FARGO, N.D. – For the second time in three years, the Oral Roberts women's soccer team is heading to the Summit League Championship after advancing past NDSU 5-3 in penalty kicks.

The Golden Eagles will face No. 3 South Dakota State on Sunday, November 10 at 1:00 p.m. in Fargo for the Summit League title.

After regulation, two overtimes, and one hundred ten minutes of gritty, high quality soccer, ORU and North Dakota State remained knotted at 0-0. Both teams made their way to midfield and prepared to face off in penalty kicks.

Summit League Second Teamer Samantha Guzman stepped up first for the Golden Eagles and struck the ball in the upper right corner just past the outstretched arms of Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year Payton Mulberry. NDSU sent its first kicker to the box and evened the score 1-1. Graduate student Kennedy Langbartels made it 2-1 ORU, placing her shot in the bottom right corner of the goal. The Bison once again evened the score. Summit League First Team selection Julia Thasaphong continued ORU's streak and shot her PK into the right side of the goal. After NDSU knocked in another PK, Marcella Alves stepped up and rifled a shot into the left side of the goal to make it 4-3 ORU. Next, NDSU sent up the Summit League Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, Morgan Russmann. Russman struck the ball towards the bottom right corner, but a diving Alexa Riefer stretched out her left hand and blocked the shot. To secure the Golden Eagle victory, Coach Risenhoover sent out midfielder Carson Arne. Arne lined up the ball and confidently shot it into the left corner of the goal, advancing ORU to the championship match 5-3 in PKs.
