FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Golden Eagles opened the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge, falling to the NAU Lumberjacks 80-87 in Flagstaff, Arizona on Wednesday afternoon.

Â
Ruthie Udoumoh opened the game for the Golden Eagles, shooting back-to-back two-point jump shots, securing their first four points of the afternoon. After one more jumper from
Taleyah Jones ORU gave up a 9-0 run as the Lumberjacks pulled ahead. With 2:43 left in the quarter, another 8-1 NAU run had the Golden Eagles in a seven-point hole (26-19) after the first ten.
The second quarter was all Golden Eagles, outscoring NAU 29-17. Ten points and two triples from
Makyra Tramble helped propel ORU over the Lumberjacks in the quarter. Scoring runs of nine, five and four helped ORU regain momentum heading into the break as the Golden Eagles led 48-43.
Â
NAU came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Golden Eagles 32-8 in the third quarter. Four rebounds from
Meghan Weinrich and five points from
Taleyah Jones couldn't surpass the NAU offensive attack.
Another dominant quarter from ORU couldn't translate into a win despite the Golden Eagles' late push. ORU outscored NAU 24-12 and
Taleyah Jones seemed to be the driving factor. In the fourth, Jones scored five points in the final 4:30 but the deficit was too large to overcome for ORU as they earned their second loss of the season and first of the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge.
