Tulsa, Okla.– In a highly anticipated Sunday afternoon matchup, the Oral Roberts baseball team clashed with South Dakota State in the opening game of their Summit League series, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown on the diamond.
The Jackrabbits came out swinging, immediately establishing their dominance with a commanding six-run lead in the early innings. South Dakota State's offense was firing on all cylinders, putting pressure on the Golden Eagles' pitching staff and showcasing their hitting prowess.
As the game progressed, the Jackrabbits' pitching staff also made their presence felt, taking a no-hit bid deep into the sixth inning and stifling ORU's potent lineup. However, Ryan Blackwell emerged as a beacon of hope for the Golden Eagles, breaking up the no-hit bid with a crucial single up the middle in the sixth inning to keep Oral Roberts in the game.
Blackwell's heroics didn't end there, as he sparked a late rally in the bottom of the ninth with a dramatic three-run homer over the left field fence, injecting new life and excitement into the Golden Eagles' dugout and cutting the deficit to just three runs.
Despite Oral Roberts' spirited comeback attempt, the early lead built by South Dakota State proved to be enough for the visitors as they held on for a hard-fought 6-3 victory.
