Tulsa, Okla.– The Oral Roberts baseball team claimed their 22nd Summit League Baseball Tournament Title by routing Northern Colorado to secure the fourth tournament 3-Peat in the league history.
Slated as the road team for the Saturday finale, the Golden Eagles set the tone with two two-run homers courtesy of
Elijah Rodriguez and
Drew Stahl knocking UNC's starter out of the game in the first inning.
The Bears however countered in their half of the inning, driving three runs of their own causing ORU having to turn to
Caleb Isaacs out of the bullpen.
In his last game at J.L. Johnson Stadium, the lefty from Edmond cemented his name further in the rich history of ORU postseason heroes as Isaacs escaped the jam and spun a career-high 5.1 innings without giving up an earned run.
ORU's lineup returned the favor by spotting two more runs with a
David Herring opposite field homer and an RBI single from Rodriguez in the second and fourth inning.
Despite the offensive surges from the Golden Eagles, the Bears remained close behind trailing by three headed into the top of the sixth.Â
Trouble would arise for Northern Colorado as they quickly loaded the bases with two outs as another ORU senior, bent on returning to the NCAA Regionals for the second time in his Golden Eagle career, stepped to the plate.
Wasting no time, Stahl barreled the first pitch he saw well into the trees over the left field fence, blowing the game wide open in favor of the Golden Eagles.
The Bears' lineup was able to muster one run in response, but 3.1 innings of hitless relief from
Jared Ure,
Conner Floyd, and
Dalton Patten combined with an insurance RBI from
Kyle Booker would be more than enough for the Golden Eagles to secure the title.
