TULSA, Okla. – Midfielder Marcella Alves recorded her first career goal as the Oral Roberts women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over McNeese on Thursday night.
 
From the start, the Golden Eagles applied heavy offensive pressure on the McNeese backline. In the first seven minutes of action, ORU tallied four corner kick attempts and one shot. The Golden Eagles continued to move the ball down the field but were unable to connect on anything. In the final four minutes of the first half, ORU took four corner kicks. Unable to make something work on the first three attempts, the Golden Eagles finally pushed through as Marcella Alves headed in a perfect pass from Ariana Fresquez to put the home team up one with seven seconds remaining in the half.
 
Out of the break, ORU continued to fire shots at the McNeese goal and keep the ball on the Cowgirls' side of the field. The Golden Eagles took 12 second-half shots but could not break through for a second time. ORU's starting backline of Alani Chaple, Hannah Voskuhl, Riley Baldwin, and Fresquez put together a phenomenal outing as they limited McNeese to only one shot and helped lead the Golden Eagles to their first shutout win since October 5, 2023.
