Mustangs vs Golden Eagles
  • Cal Poly's only previous meeting with Oral Roberts was a 5-3 victory for ORU in the second game of the 2023 season – a result that included six goals inside the opening 17 minutes.
  • Luis Flores looks to continue being a nightmare for the Mustangs, picking up a brace in their matchup last year.
  • The Golden Eagles outshot Cal Poly 18-7.
Scouting the Mustangs
  • Seeking its first goal and victory of 2024, Cal Poly began the season with a scoreless draw at San Francisco (Aug. 22) before sustaining a 2-0 setback at Saint Mary's (Aug. 25).
  • Under the direction of second-year head coach Oige Kennedy, Cal Poly also returned four All-Big West selections from 2023 while welcoming 14 newcomers during the offseason – including two Division I transfers and nine freshmen.
Brace for Impact
  • Omar Mora scored the most goals in an ORU regular season opener since Reed Berry's brace in a 4-1 win over Drake (8/30/2019).
In Good Hands
  • Joao Mesquita made his first career start for the Golden Eagles on Sunday against #10 SMU.
  • The senior keeper would pick up six saves while facing 17 shots and keeping the Mustangs scoreless in the first half.
Running it Back
  • Head Coach Ryan Bush enters the season 10 wins shy of hitting the century mark of career wins at ORU (90-70-25).
  • Luis Flores enters the year listed as one of United Soccer Coaches' 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Players to Watch after a 2023 campaign that saw him break ORU single-season goals scored record (15).
  • Flores and Schinieder Mimy were selected to the Summit League Preseason Players to Watch list. This is the second consecutive Player to Watch honor for Mimy and the first for Flores.
  • At the end of this past summer, Brian McCurdy was promoted to Associate Head Coach.
  • Along with Mimy and Flores, ORU returns starters Jakub Grzesiak, Juan Moreno, and Thiago Patto back for the 2024 season.
