#ORUMSOC Knocks Off #24 UCSB in Comeback Fashion

Record: ORU (2-1-1) –  Gauchos (2-1-0)
Location: Case Soccer Complex
Goals: Mora '69 (4), Mora PK '82 (5)

TULSA, Okla. – On Sunday night the ORU men's soccer team went to battle with a nationally-ranked opponent for the third time this season in just four games. The Gauchos, who entered this week ranked #24 in the country and #1 in the Men's College Soccer RPI Rankings, would be sent back down by the Golden Eagles, who would rise to the occasion in comeback fashion.

In the first half the Golden Eagles would be stifled by the Gauchos physicality as the 16 combined first-half fouls resulted in one lone shot for ORU. Meanwhile the UCSB would be able to capitalize on a counter attack to take the lead in the 40th minute.

Coming out of the break, Oral Roberts would flip the script on the Gauchos, only needing three shots to take back the lead.

Omar Mora would find the equalizer off a beautiful through ball from Juan Moreno to turn back the momentum towards the Golden Eagles just before the 70th minute.

Then in the 82nd minute, a UCSB handball call reviewed by VAR resulted in a penalty being awarded to the Golden Eagles. Mora would be tabbed to take the kick, and the junior would rise to the occasion and bury the ball in the back of the net to take the lead.

In the dying minutes UCSB had multiple chances to score but Joao Mesquita and his back line held off the Gauchos and sealed the victory for ORU.

Inside the Box Score
  • The Gauchos got 14 shots off while the Golden Eagles had four.
  • Mora's 5 goals are the most in the first four games of the season for any ORU player since 2010.
