Mesquita Saves the Day Against Omaha

The Basics

Record:  ORU (3-2-3, 1-0-0) –  Omaha (5-2-2, 0-1-0)
Location: Case Soccer Complex

TULSA, Okla. – The ORU men's soccer team took three points away from Omaha and remained undefeated at the Case in thrilling fashion on Saturday night.

In the first 45 minutes of play, the Golden Eagles and the Mavericks's stellar midfield play saw only a combined six shots as both teams entered the break seeing which side would blink first in the stalemate.

After 20 more minutes of physical Summit League soccer, Luis Flores and Omar Mora would re-enter the pitch looking to put ORU over the edge. The duo quickly turned up the temperature on the Omaha back line and after a shot by Mora was blocked in the box, Benjamin Morgan was able to finish the give-and-go with a stellar strike to the right side of the keeper to give himself his second goal in two matches.

ORU was not out of the woods yet after a VAR call in the 84th minute awarded the Mavericks a chance to equalize with a penalty. With the game on the line, the reigning Summit League Peak Defender of the Week Joao Mesquita, rose to the occasion with the save of the year to secure the win for the Golden Eagles and his third clean sheet of the campaign.
