#ORUWSOC Secures First Road Win of the Season

The Basics
Score: Oral Roberts 2 – Tarleton State 1
Record: ORU (2-4-1) – Tarleton State (3-2-3)
Location: Tarleton Soccer Complex (Stephenville, Texas)

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – A dominant first half by the Oral Roberts women's soccer team powered them to a 2-1 victory at Tarleton State on Thursday night.

Audrey Weir and Carys Torgesen scored their first goals of the season as they led ORU to its first road victory of the 2024 campaign. With this win, Head Coach Austin Risenhoover has now reached 20 total wins in his head coaching career.

The Golden Eagles started the match as the aggressors and pushed the ball on offense. ORU wasted no time getting in the scoring column tonight. In just the seventh minute of action, Julia Thasaphong found a sprinting Audrey Weir with a perfect vertical pass that Weir crushed into the back of the net, notching the first goal of her collegiate career. At the 30-minute mark, Haley Nichols lofted a right-to-left cross that Carys Torgesen headed past the Tarleton State keeper to make it a 2-0 Golden Eagle lead. ORU continued to dominate for the remainder of the half as it outshot the home team 9-1 in the first 45 minutes of play.

However, the Texans wouldn't go away and opened the second half with a quick shot in the first 90 seconds. The intensity ramped up for both teams as the match went along. Four yellow cards were handed out between the two programs in the second half alone. In the 57th minute, ORU was whistled for a foul inside their own box, resulting in a Tarleton State penalty kick. Jenaya Brown knocked in the kick and cut the lead in half. The Golden Eagles played stout defense for the remainder of the match as they fought to keep the Texans away from an equalizer. Two ORU yellow cards in the last four minutes of play gave Tarleton State a good look at the goal, but keeper Alexa Riefer and the Golden Eagle backline held strong as ORU earned its first road win of the season.
