SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Golden Eagles fell 68-84 to the #25 South Dakota State Jackrabbits in the Summit League Tournament Championship on Sunday evening. As a historic season comes to a close, the ORU women's basketball program will await their post-season fate in the coming weeks.
Â
Taleyah Jones and
Emily Robinson each scored 17 points on the outing. Robinson logged six assists and was deadly from three-point range, knocking down four of her six shots from beyond the arc.
Ruthie Udoumoh scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Jalei Oglesby also broke into in double-figures, scoring 11 points while securing seven rebounds in the process.
Â
The Golden Eagles opened the game in a slump, shooting just 4-19 from the field in the first frame. The Jackrabbits opened the game making four of their first five shots, all of which were beyond the arc.
Taleyah Jones and
Ruthie Udoumoh combined for nine points in the quarter but ORU was still in a 10-19 hole after one.
ORU began the second quarter scoring five straight points off a Jalei Jumper and Makyra triple. With 3:06 to play in the half,
Emily Robinson drained a three to cut the lead to three (29-32). Emily's second triple of the game came shortly after her first but a 6-2 run from SDSU gave them a 10-point lead (36-46) heading into the break. ORU nearly tripled their point total in the first quarter, scoring 26 points on 8-16 (50.0%) shooting in the second.
Â
A rollercoaster of a third quarter was kicked off with another Robinson three, her third of the afternoon. The Jackrabbits began to extend their lead mid-quarter, but the Golden Eagles fought back, cutting the once 16-point third quarter lead to five with 2:09 to play in the frame. A 5-0 SDSU run erased the five-point advantage ORU had gained as the Golden Eagles remained in a ten-point hole heading into the fourth.
Â
Despite
Taleyah Jones' six-point quarter, the Jackrabbits took over the fourth, outscoring ORU 19-13 to seal the Golden Eagles' fate and Summit League Tournament run. Â
