TULSA, Okla. – The ORU volleyball program has announced the signing of DS/L Sophie Johnson, Head Coach Nolan Albrecht announced on Friday afternoon.

"We're thrilled to welcome Sophie to the Golden Eagles family," said Coach Albrecht. "She's an experienced Libero/DS who brings some great qualities to our squad. She has recent winning experience in the Summit League at SDSU, including an At-Large NCAA Tournament berth last year. She's got one year left to leave it all on the court and I believe she's poised to bring a championship mentality and athleticism that will immediately enhance our team. I'm excited to see her bring the hype and contribute to the special group we're building here at ORU!"

Johnson is joining the program following stops at South Dakota State, Dordt and Southwest Minnesota State.

Last year, she played in 18 matches and 31 sets for the Jackrabbits, recording 14 digs. She played two seasons at Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, where she appeared in every match during her 2022 and 2023 campaigns. Johnson surpassed 1,000 collegiate assists in her 2023 season and set new career single-match highs of 48 assists and 18 digs. As a freshman at SMSU in 2021, she appeared in all 29 matches with 17 starts and finished second on team in total assists with 248 and was fourth in digs with 161.

Johnson graduated from Hendricks High School in 2020, where she was a two-time first team all-conference performer in volleyball, finishing her high school career with 1,750 kills, 1,616 digs and 293 aces.
