Austin Nicholson led the Golden Eagles for the second consecutive game as the Oral Roberts baseball team fell 6-5 at Dallas Baptist Thursday afternoon.
Trailing 2-0, the Golden Eagles first put runs on the board in the fifth inning as
Austin Nicholson delivered an RBI single to score
Will Edmunson, who had reached on a double. DBU made it 4-1 in the bottom of the frame, but ORU leveled the score at four in the sixth.
The Golden Eagles' three-run sixth began as
Hudson Ellis singled through the right side and advanced to second on a
Makani Tanaka single to center. Ellis was driven in on a single by
Cooper Combs, and Tanaka scored on a Mainord sacrifice fly.
The bases became loaded as
Cooper Kelly and Edmunson reached on walks, and Nicholson drew an RBI walk to tie the score at four.
ORU gained the advantage in the top of the eighth as
Martell Davis singled to score
Cooper Kelly, who had reached on a triple.
The Patriots tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a homer to right. The game ended as DBU hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth.
K. Ferris (0-2) came out of the bullpen for Oral Roberts and took the loss.
Easton Teel started on the mound for ORU, throwing 4.0 innings and striking out five batters.
Jack Hill was a bright spot for the Golden Eagles, coming out of the bullpen and throwing four innings, giving up one run on one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
JT Long was awarded the win after entering in the ninth, allowing no hits or walks and striking out three batters.
