DALLAS, Texas – The Oral Roberts baseball team wrapped up its games in Texas with an 8-6 win over Dallas Baptist on Saturday afternoon.
Offensively, the Golden Eagles were paced by
Cooper Combs, who went 3-for-5 on the day with two RBIs.
Makani Tanaka went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and a walk, while
Cooper Kelly also contributed two hits in four trips to the plate, adding a walk and two RBIs.
The Golden Eagles got on the board immediately, putting up four runs on four singles and a fielder's choice.
The Patriots rallied to tie the ballgame at four in the bottom of the first, but the Golden Eagles responded in the second with a Combs single to score Tanaka, who had tripled to left-center.
ORU held the Patriots without a run or hit before building its lead to 7-4 in the fourth inning. The two-run fourth began with Ellis singling and moving to third on a Tanaka double before scoring on a Combs groundout. Tanaka later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Wailele Kane-Yates to make it 7-4.
The Patriots gained ground, closing the gap to 7-6 with a two-run homer in the sixth, but ORU added an insurance run in the ninth. The Golden Eagles plated a run when Kelly drew a walk that scored
Keaton Campbell, extending the Oral Roberts advantage to 8-6.
Conner Johnson (1-0) earned the win for Oral Roberts. The right-hander went 5.1 innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts.
Weston Rouse recorded the save, throwing 3.2 shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking one and striking out four.
