TULSA, Oklahoma – Sophomore lefthander Brenden Asher recorded a career-high eight strikeouts as the Oral Roberts baseball team fell to Central Arkansas, 5-3, on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Oral Roberts opened the scoring in the second inning as Cooper Kelly singled and later reached third after Cooper Combs singled and advanced on an error. Kelly was driven in on a groundout for the first run of the day.
   
Hudson Ellis followed with a single to advance Combs to third before the left fielder was driven in on an RBI single to right by Will Edmunson.
   
Asher struck out six batters over the first three innings, including a 1-2-3 second frame.
   
Central Arkansas added its first run in the fourth, scoring on a groundout. The Bears followed with a three-run homer in the fifth to take a 4-2 advantage.
 
The Golden Eagles responded with one in the fifth as a Kelly fielder's choice scored Wailele Kane-Yates, who had doubled and moved to third on a single by Martell Davis.
 
UCA added the final run of the day in the seventh, sending a home run over the left-field wall.
 
Asher (0-3) was charged with the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in 4.2 innings of work while striking out eight and walking none.
 
Silas Cowgill (3-0) earned the win for UCA, throwing 2.0 innings and allowing two hits. Closer Hunter Alexander was awarded the save, tossing the final 2.0 innings.
 
Up Next
The Golden Eagles will be on the road for Summit League play, traveling to South Dakota State for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 17 at 3 p.m.
