TULSA, Oklahoma – The Oral Roberts baseball team fell to No. 14 Oklahoma, 7-6, on Tuesday evening.
Cooper Combs opened the scoring with a first-inning grand slam, bringing home
Will Edmunson,
Wailele Kane-Yates, and
Martell Davis, who each drew a walk.
The Sooners responded with a home run in the second, but ORU answered quickly as
Ethan Fender launched his first home run of the season down the left-field line.
The Golden Eagles scored their final run of the game in the fourth inning, as Kane-Yates singled to center to score Ellis, who had drawn a walk and advanced on an Edmunson single and a
Makani Tanaka fielder's choice.
OU added runs in the following frames, including two on sacrifice flies. A sixth-inning grand slam gave the Sooners the lead, and they held on for the 7-6 win.
ORU starter
Brenden Asher threw 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out six batters.
Connor Johnson (0-1) was charged with the loss after tossing 0.2 innings.
OU reliever Reid Hensley (1-0) earned the win after recording one out. Xander Mercurius (S, 1) pitched the final three innings to secure the save.
