TULSA, Oklahoma – The Oral Roberts baseball team defeated St. Thomas, 7-4, in the series opener on Friday, May 1.
ORU started strong, putting up five runs in the first three innings.
Cooper Combs got the scoring started with an RBI single, driving in
Makani Tanaka, who had reached on an error. Tanaka advanced to second on a single by
Wailele Kane-Yates and moved to third on a passed ball.
Two Golden Eagles went deep to left field, as
Will Edmunson and
Ethan Fender each hit two-run home runs in the second and third innings, respectively.
The Tommies responded with four runs over the next two frames, scoring on an error and an RBI double in the third, followed by a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
ORU added insurance in the eighth with RBI singles from Edmunson and Kane-Yates.
Jack Hill (5-0) earned the win after tossing 5.1 shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out three.
Brayden Olsen (0-7) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings of work.
