MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Oral Roberts baseball team defeated South Dakota State 4-1 to advance to the tournament title game before falling to the Jackrabbits 9-6 on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles had five players named to the All-Tournament Team – outfielders
Will Edmunson and
Makani Tanaka, pitchers
Jackson Farrell and
Nathan Love, and designated hitter
Matthew Mainord.

The Golden Eagles opened the afternoon with a 4-1 win over South Dakota State, forcing an if-necessary game.
ORU opened the scoring as
Cooper Combs hit a two-RBI single up the middle, scoring
Makani Tanaka, who singled, and
Wailele Kane-Yates, who drew a walk.
The Golden Eagles added another run in the fourth as
Martell Davis led off with a double and later scored when
Ethan Fender reached on an error by the third baseman.
SDSU scored its lone run of the game in the seventh on an RBI single into right field.
ORU added its final run in the ninth on an RBI single by
Hudson Ellis that scored
Cooper Kelly, who had walked and advanced to second on a
Matthew Mainord single.
Golden Eagles starter
Jackson Farrell (4-1) earned the win after throwing 6.2 innings, striking out four batters while walking just one.
Kash Ferris earned his third save after entering in the seventh and throwing 2.1 scoreless, hitless innings with five strikeouts and no walks.
Drew McDowell (3-2) was charged with the loss after throwing 7.0 innings for the Jackrabbits, allowing three runs on three hits.

The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in game two in the first inning as
Will Edmunson drew a walk, followed by a
Makani Tanaka single.
Wailele Kane-Yates drove a single into left field to score Edmunson and advance Tanaka to second. Both runners advanced on a
Cooper Combs sacrifice bunt before Tanaka scored on a groundout.
SDSU answered with two solo home runs in the bottom of the frame.
Both teams added a run in the second inning.
Matthew Mainord singled and stole second before scoring on an Edmunson single. The Jackrabbits answered with a solo homer.
South Dakota State gained the advantage in the third, first scoring on a passed ball and later adding an RBI single.
ORU added runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, beginning with an RBI single by Edmunson to score Mainord, who had singled up the middle and advanced on a
Hudson Ellis single.
Kane-Yates led off the fifth with a single, followed by Kelly with a single down the right field line before Kane-Yates scored as
Ethan Fender reached on an error.
Edmunson added ORU's final run of the evening with a home run to left-center field.
The Jackrabbits added a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, driving in two on a double to make it 7-5 in the fifth. They capped the day with an RBI single and RBI double in the sixth for a 9-6 victory.
Luke Williams (3-4) entered in relief for the Golden Eagles and was charged with the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in 1.2 innings.
Ty Madison (4-5) earned the win for SDSU after entering in the fourth inning and throwing 5.1 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits.
