TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts University Athletics family mourns the passing of former men's basketball student-athlete Duane Fox, while celebrating a life of faith, service and leadership that extended far beyond the basketball court.
Fox was a member of the Golden Eagles (then Titans) during one of the most significant eras in ORU Basketball history. A dependable presence in the post under Head Coach Ken Trickey, he helped build the foundation of a program that would become nationally respected. During his two varsity seasons, Fox appeared in 55 games, averaging more than 10 points and five rebounds per contest while helping lead ORU during its memorable run to the 1974 NCAA Elite Eight. His toughness, consistency and selfless approach embodied the values that defined those championship-caliber teams.
While his contributions to ORU Basketball remain an important part of the program's history, Duane's greatest legacy was the life he lived after leaving campus.
Following his time at ORU, Fox dedicated his career to serving others. He worked with 1 to 1 Counseling/Big Brothers Big Sisters in Tulsa before becoming a parole officer for the State of Oklahoma. After returning to his home state of Michigan, he continued his public service as a parole officer for the State of Michigan while faithfully serving as a deacon at Morning View Baptist Church in Detroit.
Fox also shared his passion for helping young people pursue their dreams by co-founding Creative Sports Recruiting with Arnold McCamey. Together, they mentored and assisted countless high school student-athletes in connecting with colleges and universities, creating opportunities that changed lives for generations of young people.
Those who knew Duane remember a man of unwavering faith, humility and compassion—a teammate who became a mentor, a public servant who invested in his community, and a family man whose influence reached far beyond the game of basketball.
The ORU Basketball family has always been about more than wins and losses. It is a brotherhood built on faith, excellence and servant leadership, and Duane Fox will forever remain an important part of that legacy. His impact lives on through the teammates who called him a brother, the young people whose lives he influenced, and the generations of Golden Eagles who continue to build upon the foundation he helped establish.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fox family and all who were blessed to know Duane. May they find comfort in the memories they shared and peace in knowing that his legacy of faith, service and leadership will never be forgotten.
