TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's soccer program kept the Mayor's Cup in Golden Eagle hands for the fourth consecutive season, defeating crosstown rival Tulsa, 2-0, Thursday night at Case Soccer Complex. The result moves Oral Roberts to 6-0-2 on the season, while Tulsa falls to 4-3-1.
ORU struck first in the 10th minute, as
Marlee Fort buried her second goal of the season off an assist from
Brianna Castleberry, giving the Golden Eagles an early 1-0 edge.
Alyson Sebban and the ORU backline made it stand up through halftime, weathering a spirited push from the Golden Hurricane that included saves on shots from Kyrsten Kizer and Addison Castleberry.
ORU doubled its advantage early in the second half, as
Brianna Castleberry finished off a feed from
Genesis Helsley in the 51st minute for her team-leading seventh goal of the season, putting the match out of reach.
Tulsa pushed for a response but could never find the breakthrough, managing just seven shots on the night compared to ORU's nine. Sebban finished with four saves in the shutout, while the match saw its share of physical play, with five yellow cards shown to Tulsa and one to Oral Roberts.
