Former ORU shortstop Trevin Sonnier returns to the Golden Eagles as the volunteer assistant coach for the 2018 season.
 
Sonnier joins the coaching staff at ORU after playing two seasons of minor league baseball. A native of Nederland, Texas, he signed a contract with the Chicago White Sox as a free agent following his collegiate career. He made a transition into the outfield during his first professional season in the Arizona League playing 39 games for the AZL White Sox in the 2016 season. He later joined the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League for 41 games in 2017.
 
He played the 2016 season with the Golden Eagles and started all 59 games at shortstop, while landing on the prestigious Brooks Wallace Watch List for shortstop of the year. Sonnier earned Second Team All-Summit League honors at ORU after posting a .308 batting average and 42 runs scored with a team-leading 11 stolen bases.
 
Sonnier played his first collegiate season at Panola College before spending two years at Dallas Baptist appearing in 49 games for the Patriots in 2014 and 21 games during the 2015 campaign.
