Ashtin Meerpohl was promoted to Director of Sports Performance at Oral Roberts in May 2021 after originally joining the department as Assistant Director of Sports Performance in April 2018. In his current role, Meerpohl directly oversees all aspects of sports performance for the ORU Athletic Department, while working as the primary sports performance coach for the men’s basketball, men's soccer and men’s and women’s golf programs.
Meerpohl came to ORU after spending 10 months as a Sports Performance Assistant at The University of Kansas. In his time with the Jayhawks, he directly oversaw the development and implementation of sport-specific training programs for women’s rowing and spirit squad. He further assisted with eight other athletic teams including, men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, baseball, soccer, softball, swimming and golf, and volunteered with the football program.
Prior to his time at Kansas, Meerpohl was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for football at Southwest Minnesota State University. While working with the Mustangs, he oversaw all aspects of football sports performance and contributed to the development and success of two All-Americans and seven NSIC All-Conference selections. SMSU football also went on to record its first-ever win over a Top-25 ranked opponent during Meerpohl’s time in Marshall.
Meerpohl completed sports performance internships at The University of Kansas working with 15 intercollegiate athletic programs and The Ohio State University working with football where he was a part of the Buckeyes' 2016 Fiesta Bowl championship.
A native of Holton, Kansas, Meerpohl earned his B.S.E in Community Health from The University of Kansas in 2015. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a certified Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist (FRCms) through Functional Range Systems and is Adult First Aid/CPR/AED Certified through the American Red Cross.
