Elisha Turek (Council Bluffs, Iowa) kicked off
her senior
campaign in fine fashion Saturday afternoon, recording game-highs
of 22 points
and 18 rebounds as she led the Oral Roberts University
women�€™s basketball team
to a 82-67 victory over North Dakota State at the Mabee
Center.
Turek�€™s double-
double was the 37th of her career, while her 18 rebounds
�€" including
10 offensive �€" was just one carom shy of her career
mark. She also shot 62.5
percent (10-16) from the floor with two assists and a pair of
steals in 31 minutes
of action.
ORU
(1-0) got
a fast start out of the gate with Turek and Jenny
Hardin
(Claremore, Okla.) combining for nine of the teams first 11
points, as the Golden
Eagles held an 11-2 lead more than five and a half minutes into
the contest.</<br /> font>
A pair
of Lisa
Bue buckets brought NDSU (0-1) to within 13-10 at the 11:32 mark,
but Turek
answered with a lay up that sparked a 12-0 ORU run to give the
home squad a
25-10 lead with 8:36 to play in the half.
The
Golden
Eagles maintained their double figure lead until the Bison closed
the half on a
10-4 run to pull within 38-32 at intermission.
Turek
nearly
has a double-double by the half, finishing the first stanza with
14 points and nine
boards.
ORU
began to
pull away early in the second half, increasing their lead to 15
points, 57-42, on a
Mariana Camargo (Blumenau, Brazil) lay up at the
15:24
mark.
The
lead was 11
points when Hardin made a lay up and connected on a three-pointer
on back-to-
back possessions to fuel an 8-2 spurt and give the Golden Eagles
their largest lead
of the day at 74-55.
ORU
would led
by 19 points on two more occasions before settling in for a
season-opening 82-67
victory.
The
Golden
Eagles dominated the visitors in the post all afternoon, scoring
46 points in the
paint and turning 22 offensive rebounds into 15 second chance
points. ORU also
held a 49-36 overall advantage on the boards.
NDSU
shot 44.3
percent (27-61) from the floor for the game, including 25.0
percent (4-16) on
three-point baskets. The Golden Eagles, meanwhile, shot 45.2
percent (33-73)
from the field and 27.8 percent (5-18) from behind the arc.
Hardin
finished
the day with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Camargo and
Rachel
Watman (Sydney, Australia) chipped in with 14 points a
piece.
Camargo also added seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals in
34 minutes of
play.
Bue led
the
Bison with 18 points, on 8-of-13 shooting, and seven rebounds.
The
Golden
Eagles will return to action next Saturday night when they travel
to Conway,
Arkansas, for a 7:00 p.m. contest with Central Arkansas.
