turnovers in the first half �€"
converting them into 19 points �€" as the Golden Eagles
built a 12-point halftime
lead en route en route to a 71-55 victory over the Shockers in
front of 2,706
Wednesday night at Charles Koch Arena.
Elisha Turek (Council Bluffs, Iowa)scored a
game-high 21
points �€" including 17 in the second half
�€" while adding six rebounds and three
steals in 32 minutes of work. Her final rebound made Turek just the
second
player in ORU history with 900 career boards.
Turek made just one of her first five shots but then hit nine of
her last 10 to finish
the night 10-of-15 from the floor. Her first bucket gave Turek sole
possession of
7th place on the Mid-Continent Conference�€™s 7th
all-time scoring list.
ORU (6-2) opened up an eight point lead during the
game�€™s opening minutes, but
Wichita State (2-4) responded with an 11-4 spurt to pull within
17-16. But that�€™s
when the Golden Eagles took over as a Carol
Volpato
(Turbarao, Brazil) jumper started a 14-1 run to give the visitors a
31-17
advantage with 2:23 to play in the half.
Alycia Seay (Big Cabin, Okla.) would later convert
a lay-in
just before the buzzer sounded to give ORU a 34-22 lead heading
into the break.
The Shockers fought back early in the second half, registering nine
of the first 11
points to cut the deficit to just five at 36-31. The Golden Eagles
led eight when
Turek took over, as she scored 11 straight points �€"
on five-of-five shooting �€" to
fuel a 13-4 run and give ORU their largest lead of the night at 17
points, 57-40.
The Golden Eagles cruised from there, increasing their advantage to
18 points on
two separate occasions and leading by double-digits the rest of the
way in their
71-55 win.
ORU shot 50.0 percent (31-of-62) from the field on the night, while
limiting the
Shockers to 38.8 percent (19-49) including just 17.6 percent (3-17)
from behind
the arc. WSU ended the night with 25 turnovers, and the Golden
Eagles turned
them into 25 extra points.
Mariana Camargo (Blumenau, Brazil) added 14
points, six
assists, five rebounds, and three steals for ORU, while
Jenny Hardin
(Claremore, Okla.) recorded her first double-double of
the year with 12
points and 10 boards.
Antionette Wells led the Shockers with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting
to go along
with nine rebounds.
The Golden Eagles will be off for more than a week because of
semester finals
