ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Oral Roberts University's men's soccer team
dropped a tough match to Oakland, losing 1-0 on Saturday at the OU
Soccer Complex. The Golden Eagles dropped their fourth straight
match to fall to 2-7-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league play.
Oakland's Martin Sandell netted the game-winning goal late in the
match at the 81:58 mark off a ORU turnover. Sandell slid the ball
past ORU's goalkeeper
Andrew Techanchuk from the top of the box,
as Oakland improved to 5-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference
action.
Both teams finished with 10 shots apiece, while ORU held a 5-1
advantage in corner kicks.
Techanchuk finished with five saves, while Oakland's goalie Steve
Clark stopped all three shots.
The forward tandem of
Jon Gann and Juan
Chang each had scoring chances early but were turned back by
OU's Clark. Gann fired off a shot just a little over two minutes
into the match but was steered away by Clark, while Chang had a
header in the 12th minute.
Chang finished the match with three shots, one on-goal, while Miguel
Peralta had two shots.
ORU fell to 1-7 this year on the road, but have played a tough
schedule with six of their nine opponents ranked in the top-10 of
their respective region. OU is ranked 10th in the Midwest Region by
the NSCAA.
