SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Oral Roberts men's soccer's
Joao Mesquita has been named to the 2025 Summit League Men's Soccer All-Academic Team, the league office announced Wednesday. There was a total of 11 student-athletes named to the squad that was voted on by the membership's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors.
A two-time member of the Summit League Academic Honor Roll, the selection marks Mesquita's first career All-Academic Team honor. A graduate student from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Mesquita earned his undergraduate degree in communications in May 2025, graduating with a 3.85 cumulative GPA. He is currently working toward a graduate degree in sport and leisure administration.
On the field, Mesquita appeared in 10 matches for the Golden Eagles, making nine starts and logging 855 minutes of action. He ranked second in the Summit League and No. 32 nationally in save percentage (.833), while leading the conference in saves per game (3.89).
The graduate goalkeeper was named a Summit League All-Conference honorable mention and earned All-Tournament Team honors after helping the Golden Eagles reach the Summit League Tournament. Mesquita also became the first Golden Eagle to be named the league's Peak Performer of the Week this season, earning the defensive honor after recording nine saves against UMass.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's five institutions that carry men's soccer. The #SummitMSOC all-league team is made up of the 11 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
Five men's soccer programs were represented on the 2025 Summit League Men's Soccer All-Academic Team that was headlined by a quartet of repeat honorees and announced by league officials on Wednesday.
Denver and Kansas City each led the way with three selections, while newcomers Delaware and Massachusetts each had two and Oral Roberts had one on the list.
Pioneer midfielder Jake Smith racked up his third career honor, while fellow DU midfielder Aidan Semelsberger, earned his second. The Roo duo of Miguel Fernandez and Bryson Gosch also were repeat honorees.
First-time honorees included the Delaware duo of Jan Schroeder and Marius Stenner, the Massachusetts duo of Matt Cence and Shane Velez, along with Denver goalkeeper Isaac Nehme, Kansas City defender Wesley Cribb and Oral Roberts goalkeeper Jaoa Mesquita.
