women�€™s basketball team honored six seniors in
their last home game of the year with a 87-58 victory over
Centenary in Mid-Continent Conference action on Monday night at the
Mabee Center.
Five of
the six seniors started the game for ORU (18-9, 7-5); with
Ebony Haliburton (Kansas City, Mo.) and
Jamie Fithian (McPherson, Kan.) earning their
first start of the season. Haliburton and Fithian combined for 20
minutes while scoring seven points and grabbing six rebounds.
Fithian
scored the first two buckets of the game as the Golden Eagles did
not trail the rest of the game. ORU went into the locker room with
a 49-27 advantage on 60 percent shooting while holding Centenary to
27 points on 37.5 percent shooting.
Senior
Elisha Turek (Council Bluffs, Iowa) and
Jenny Hardin (Claremore, Okla.) led the Golden
Eagles at halftime with 16 and 11 points respectively.
The
second half was more of the same story with the Golden Eagles
opening up a 38 point advantage, 76-38, at the 11:28 mark.
Centenary (5-22, 1-11) went on a 10-0 run over the next 4:47 to cut
into the Golden Eagle lead but could not get closer than 29
points.
Turek
scored a game-high 22 points as the six seniors combined for 49
points. The senior forward collected her 50th career
double-double after grabbing 10 rebounds.
Hardin
had her best game since going down with an injury on Jan. 10,
scoring 20 points and tallying seven rebounds in only her second
game back.
Centenary was led by Cierra Bush and Bethany Joseph with 16 points
each. Joseph made 4-of-8 from beyond the arc for the Ladies.
ORU
returns to action on the road next weekend, playing current league
leader Oakland on Saturday. The tip is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
